A little background on Kharian Cantonment

Kharian Cantonment lies roughly midway between Lahore and Islamabad on the GT Road. Construction began in late 1956, with the US Army Corps of Engineers involved, and the cantonment was completed around 1959. It has grown into one of the largest cantonments in the country and is home to CMH Kharian, one of the larger Combined Military Hospitals.

The cantonment is also home to the Pakistan Army's 17th and 37th Infantry Divisions, so it is a big, busy community with schools, colonies and a steady stream of new arrivals every posting season. Families who move here often spend the first few weeks working out the basics: where to shop, where the kids can get new uniforms, and where to eat when nobody has the energy to cook.

If you are coming from the cantonment, it is a trip into the city side of Kharian, and the mall also has clothing and kids' stores, so many families combine shopping and a meal.
